At The Manchester Tart Company we specialise in providing top-quality, seasonal and great looking food which is delicious, wholesome and entirely handmade. We use the finest quality fresh ingredients in everything we produce and make everything from scratch in our large home kitchen in South Manchester.
As mother and daughter, we started making Manchester tarts when we couldn’t find a caterer to supply an authentic variety of the tarts for my wedding day. Consequently we made our own, using the Mrs Beeton recipe. Given how popular they proved to be, we decided to start selling them with the aim of providing a much-loved, but not commonly available treat for those who like to eat something which is authentic, local, handmade and of the very best quality.
Our other pies and tarts
Since then we have developed an award-winning range of pies and tarts using regional recipes and locally produced seasonal ingredients, such as: Lancashire Hot Pot pies, Lancashire Foot, ‘Chorlton Clangers’, smoked bacon and Bury black pudding tarts, Fidget pies, Lancashire curd tarts and Cumberland Rum Nicky. Equally we are inspired by cooking from other countries and we include these influences in our pies and tarts: Goat’s cheese and fattoush tomato tarts, Italian sausage and borlotti bean pie, ‘Flamiche’, ‘Koulibiaca’, Tarte Borderlure, to name a few. We are all the time developing new recipe ideas with a view to providing variety and seasonality for our customers, and because we love cooking.
We are delighted to have been awarded gold stars for our products in each year that we have entered The Great Taste Awards and this year we reached the highest achievement of 3 gold stars for our Cumberland Mutton pie. Furthermore we are listed in the Guild of Fine Food’s Top 50 UK Products 2013 and have been nominated for ‘Best Speciality Product in the North of England’. We have also been awarded successive gold and silver awards at the annual British Pie Awards which celebrates the heritage of the British pie and the craftsmanship of the pie maker.
As well as supplying local shops and cafes, we provide a full private catering service (not just pastry goods) creating original menus for parties, special occasions, ladies’ luncheons, afternoon teas, supper parties at home and corporate events. Please go to our Private Catering page to view some sample menus.
The values we bring to all aspects of our cooking are those of handmade, homemade and use of only the finest ingredients.
