We are The Manchester Tart Company, a mother and daughter team producing pies and tarts of all kinds: savoury, sweet, traditional, contemporary, wholesome, celebratory and sometimes glamorous. Our pies are of the highest quality and are entirely handmade.
We like cooking. We take a particular interest in researching and producing British regional recipes…
and take inspiration from the past, re-creating pies and pasties such as Lancashire Foot, Bedfordshire Clangers, Shropshire Fidget and Cumberland Rum Nicky. Local classics such as Eccles cakes and Lancashire Hot Pot also feature prominently in our baking. And of course, Manchester tarts.
Amongst our many awards are 3 gold stars from The Great Taste Awards, a nomination for Best Speciality Product in the North and a listing in the Guild of Fine Food’s Top 50 UK products.
Ann has worked as a professional chef for over 30 years during which time, as a lecturer, she trained chefs for the industry. Qualified to the highest possible professional level, Ann has spent a lifetime researching and cooking food from all over the world.
Clare’s equal interests are food and music and having worked in orchestral management for many years, running The Manchester Tart Company fulfils her long-standing interest in food and cooking.
We make Manchester tarts in different sizes – canapé, teatime, dessert and large to portion. The tarts can be finished with fresh raspberries, complementing the jam within or retro style with desiccated coconut and a glacé cherry.
The tarts are made to order for parties, weddings, corporate events, gifts or as a small batch for your own enjoyment.
In addition to the Manchester tarts we have developed an award-winning range of other pastries using regional recipes and locally produced ingredients, such as: Lancashire hot pot pies, Cumberland mutton pies, Lancashire cheese and onion pies, Cock-a-Leekie pies & Grimsby fish pies. Equally we are inspired by the cooking of other countries and we include these influences in our pies and tarts: goat’s cheese and fattoush tomato tarts, Italian sausage and borlotti bean pie, ‘Flamiche’, ‘Koulibiaca’, Tarte Borderlure, to name just some. We are continually developing new recipe ideas with a view to providing variety and seasonality for our customers, and because we love cooking.

Great Taste Awards
We appear regularly at local festivals selling tried and tested favourites alongside new products. We really value and enjoy the opportunity to meet and chat with our customers about all things food related, and other things besides.
Our menus are informed by the season and the character of the event and so we do not produce set menus for our catering service. For inspiration however, the sample menus below are a good starting point. We are not limited to pies and tarts alone and will turn our skills and ideas to creating menus which are original and best suited to the occasion.
